Placement critical to shift in company’s business objectives

Client

A $5 billion cable manufacturing company

Objective

Bell Oaks was retained by a leading North American cable manufacturer based in the Southeast to find a Product Design Engineer for a newly-acquired retail business unit. This new position was vital to the success of the company’s new product line to be launch in a retail environment—a complete strategy change from its focus on industrial-type products over its 50-year history. The company attempted to recruit candidates on its own over a 90 day period, but with no success.

Process

Our team met with and interviewed several members of the new business unit’s executive team at the client site. Through this process, we were able to gain a clear understanding of the ideal candidate characteristics, as well as tour the manufacturing facility and learn about the product strategy from design to total market strategy. This enabled us to develop an especially targeted candidate population to focus our recruiting efforts. After an exhaustive search, we contacted more than 30 candidates, interviewed the most qualified of those, and presented the top three to the client within one month.

Results

We focused our recruiting on geographically proximate areas to where the job was located, and found one outstanding candidate who lived within 40 miles. That candidate ultimately won the job. In addition to securing a superior employee, our search process saved the client more than $15,000 in relocations costs.

The candidate's excellent skills, the quick results of our search, and the hiring of a local candidate left the client especially pleased. Following the successful placement, Bell Oaks was engaged for two additional retained searches.
